Importance of Consultants and Project Management

 

A consultant is a professional who specializes in a certain field and offers professional insight into projects. There are two types of consultants; internal and external consultants. An internal consultant operates within an institution or organization but is available for consultation by other departments or individuals who act as clients. An Epicor Certified Consultant on the other hand is employed externally to the client and their expertise is offered on contractual basis or temporarily. The advice offered by consultants is in different forms and can be reports and presentations or developing customized software. The form of offering advice is the project.

 

Before a consultant can get into planning a project, they need to know the problem. The problem statement helps to know the stakeholders and this helps make the work doable. The art of managing the project is what is called project management. It includes phases such as; the project initiation phase and this is whereby the project is defined broadly. Herein, one researches whether the project is feasible and if it is not what should be done. After that the stakeholders can give a go ahead or revise.

 

After initiation of the project, there should be project planning by setting goals that should be achieved.  A project should be executed after the planning phase. This is when the actual work is done. A team for the project is developed and resources assigned. Task assignments are executed and the project schedule is update. The execution phase is same as implementation stage. After implementation, there is monitoring and evaluation. The monitoring and evaluation stage looks at whether the project addresses the problem. If not, recommendations are made to make it more feasible.

Projects at times fail though they are expected to be successful and therefore project management is important to consultants because it helps them learn lessons from either the success or failure of the project.
